on the tee18th hole

Your first Steps

The first step for anyone thinking of taking up golf for recreation or as a sport is to visit your local driving range. There you will be able to hire a driver and a bucket of balls. Be sure to warm up with wind swings before your actual golf swing. Enquire about the availability of a coach. You will soon be able to meet someone that knows more about golf than you. Team up with them and get to play on a real golf course. Many municipal courses will hire you a driver, irons and a putter.

Basic etiquette

While preparing to take a shot ensure that other players are not standing near or around you. When another player is preparing, stand back and not do anything that might distract the player. Do not take a shot while players in front of you are within your range. Keep your golf cart out of others way.

Try not to slow the game down. If other players catch up with you quickly and are within one hole of you let them through before you. When you have holed on the green leave straight away. Have respect for the course. and generally repair any damage done by you. Replace divots, rake or fill holes made by you in bunkers. Put the flag - pole back into its normal position. Golfers expect you to know the rules. Get yourself the rules of golf.
